Snowboarding

Keep Off Closed Areas – but that’s where the good shots are!

When we first moved to the snowy white region, we weren’t big on winter sports. We quickly learned that to survive the winter, one must enjoy the snow. So, we took up snowboarding. It was a bumpy start (steep learning curve), and I ended up on the wrong side of the orange fence a few times, but we quickly caught on and love the sport. Last year we made the big trek to the Alps to see what the pistes in France look like. Talk about broadening our horizons! Thank god for compact cameras, my little Elph had quite the journey! Here are a few of my favourites ...

Chamonix at daybreak

Chamonix was beautiful any time of day, but when the sun was just cresting the mountains it was spectacular.

Beaucoups des pistes

Il y avait beaucoup de pistes dans les Alpes!

Neverending runs

Et encore de plus de pistes! They had tiny little strips of orange snow fence in some areas to keep you on track ... not always effective.

Gondola at Le Brevent

Le Brevent was one of the peaks – its gondola was a real people mover! I won’t talk about the lines leading up to them, but if you managed to get on one, the scenery was breathtaking – going up and down!

View from above

The view from above! Breathtaking views from every angle.

View from below

The view from below! I love reflections, and this was taken while we were enjoying a beverage on the patio. We could see the runs behind us.

Chamonix chairlift

The skies were crystal clear and made for stunning pictures.

Deep in thought

He may look deep in thought, but I think he was throwing snowballs at me.

Moguls at Grands Montets

We tried our hand at moguls in the Alps, and it was a lot more fun than it looked!

Mont Blanc

Mont Blanc. Magnificent. ‘Nuff said.

Boarding under the fog

The skies weren’t always clear ... we had to explore this foggy trail on foot before strapping our boards on.
